Goal: Install Ubuntu
Our goal is to get you to using an operating system called Linux. Linux comes in different flavors. We want to set up Ubuntu If Linux/Ubuntu could be describe as food:
- Linux = Ice Cream
- Ubuntu = Rocky Road
If you are on Windows, I cannot help you. I have not used a Windows operating system since Windows XP — yes, 2003 ish. I hated it. Glad I ditched it. I heard that Windows 11 is actually a build on Ubuntu and you can switch between the two. I do not know. Cannot help you out.
Why Linux?
Straight off Google’s LLM built into their search engine:
- Top Web Servers: Linux runs on over 96.4% of the world’s top one million web servers.
- Supercomputers: The world’s 500 fastest supercomputers all run on Linux.
- Cloud Computing: Linux is dominant in the cloud, powering 49.2% of all cloud workloads, and a high percentage of instances on major cloud platforms.
- Server OS Market Share: While exact figures vary, recent analyses place Linux’s global server market share around 62.7%, significantly ahead of Windows, according to Wikipedia.
- Web Server Market Share: W3Techs data from October 2025 shows Linux used by 57.8% of websites, with Windows at 10.3%.
- High Adoption in Enterprise: Linux is widely adopted by major companies, with 72.6% of Fortune 500 companies running mission-critical workloads on it.
If you search the web, that 96-98% is going to be quoted a lot. Supercomputers? AI training? Web? All keywords of tech running on Linux. So yea, the equipment you work on will be Linux. I would give 3:1 odds on you getting any tech job, my money is you will be on Linux. I like the odds stacked and could go 20:1 and still profit. You get my point. Frustrating as it is…
You need to install or figure out your Windows dilemma yourself. As a software developer, this is what we do. We go to Google, ChatGPT, and other search engines (ChatGPT is a really smart search engine), and we search.
So, go to https://www.chatgpt.com. Type this first:
“I have <please insert your bullcrap Windows version, like Windows 10>. Can you tell me is I have Ubuntu available on this operating system or do I need to install Ubuntu?”
It will tell you some shit. Read it. You may then need to search something like this:
“How do I install Ubuntu and keep my Windows information?”
“How do I erase my Windows computer and begin anew with Linux?”
Summary
You will not keep up with the information in this series of blogs until you install Ubuntu. Install Ubuntu. Bye!
