Leadership Roles

What do R4s have that you don’t?

Understanding what the game grants these positions is the first step…

  • Make Announcements
  • Set Alliance Assembly Point
  • Send Member Emails
  • Accept/Kick Members
  • Upgrade Alliance Techs
  • Declare War/Abandon Cities
  • Adjust Member Ranks up to R3

What can an R5 do that an R4 cannot?

  • Adjust all member ranks (R4) and set title positions (Warlord, Butler, Muse, Recruiter)
  • Set application requirements for the Alliance

What this translates to day-to-day

These are some of the day-to-day activities of R5/R4s currently

Policing Members — NAP Violations

Answering DMs and Discord messages from other Alliances about our members breaking the Non-Aggression Pact with other Alliances.

Scheduling/Starting Marshall Guard

Clicking the Alliance Event and scheduling Marshall Guard 3 times a week. This event requires coordinating a best time for the most amount of members to be on.

Scheduling/Starting Desert Storm

Clicking the Alliance Event and scheduling Desert Storm. This event occurs once a week. Like Marshal Guard, requires coordination…

Assigning Train Conductor

Clicking the train and assigning the conductor at minimum. I wrote a standard operating procedure (SOP) on Discord about how to do this fairly and held a general election to adopt that SOP.

Current Time Involvement from Leadership

The above list takes about an extra 20 minutes to an hour on the game. That is pretty much it. It is up to the R4/R5 to actually do these things. Some will spend 12+ hours a day.

Previously, we had to coordinate and take the cities that we currently hold. More events will pop up that will require strategic planning and coordination with other alliances.

We hived up thanks to Bobby’s initiative and planning. This will be a reoccurring theme. Just like NAP violations, some players are more casual. To me, that is okay. People will come and go as well. That is okay. If it doesn’t matter 5 years from now, I don’t sweat it. As my Captain in the Army would say:

If it aint’ burnt, broken, or bleeding, it’ll be okay.

In other words, R5/R4 members will constantly need to educate and help members out. It is up to us to be the face of the Alliance. We should be level-headed. We should be deliberate in our actions. We should be slow to make major moves. “Slow and deliberate” is a phrase I often say.

If you have a tendency to blow tf out over a disagreement or somebody’s strong word? Well. You have to ask yourself if that is a quality to be admired. Will your peers elect/re-elect you?

Leadership Roles Moving Forward

My Vision going forward is to empower the R4s to make actionable decisions. The R5 role should be to “serve” the R4s votes. The R4s should “serve” the Alliance body.

1

R4s: Visionary Leaders

The R4s sets strategic direction, unites members, and spearheads the Alliance forward.

2

R5: Facilitator

Oversees that fair elections are held. Implements R4 votes and member votes.

3

Members: Voices to be Heard

Members will vote on R4s. Members will vote on items of day-to-day activities. Members influence their game. Members can participate in their game. Members are empowered to enjoy the strategy of their game.

What Leadership Could Look Like

There are many aspects that can make the game more engaging. I feel we can do so much more.

Deliver Content

This blog, for example, could deliver great content to our Alliance so our members would have a personal place for walkthroughs. Discord material could be kept with how-tos.

Standard Practices

We can set up Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) so that anybody knows how we do things.

Empower Players

We can engage and encourage each other to step up where they enjoy the game. Its okay not to be “supreme leader”.

Redundancy

Why is it that, when the R5 isn’t around, nothing happens? Well. I think it’s the R5s fault. We should have redundancy for every task– documented.
